The Gift

"The Gift" buy Mary Hubley

I've recently found a wealth of inspiration on the shelves of a local thrift store. There are unusual pieces of pottery and doo-dads that are perfect for still life painting. Last week, I picked up this ceramic gift box. I matched it with a purple pottery cup and an antique spool of thread.

"The Gift" explores long shadows and more interesting composition. I spent a great deal of time arranging this. I moved the gift box off the page a bit to get the perfect juxtaposition between the three objects and their interplay of color, shadow, and line.
