I looked over yesterday as I was in the garden to spy a colorful flitting of wings breeze past my head. I watched the small orange and black butterfly stop to enjoy the yellow flowers at the edge of my yard.

Living at the beach means you get to see all kinds of wildlife, from gopher tortoises to manatees. We have an abundance of hummingbirds and a few eagles and at least 100 different varieties of butterflies. I thought this might be a monarch, but I looked it up. It's called a Gulf Fritillary or Passion Butterfly.

Palm at St. Augustine Castillo

Palm at St. Augustine Castillo

This is one of the most prominent landmarks in St. Augustine, Florida - the big Spanish fort that sits at the edge of town, called Castillo de san Marcos, which was built in 1672. This painting compares two very different aspects of the Spanish fort - a tower with a round palm. While both are kind of round objects, the similarities between palm tree and Spanish tower end there.

This is the north side of the St. Augustine Spanish Fort, the Castillo de San Marcos. This painting tried to inject a bit more of the surrounding natural elements and just a little bit of the structure.

I live in St. Augustine, Florida, where visitors climb into carriages for sightseeing tours. Here, the horse and carriage turns onto Cathedral Street. The towers of Flagler College are in the background.
