Rock Painting

"Origins of Earth" painting
12 x 36 on Canvas
Inspired by the incredible small stones I picked up around Lake Superior this summer, I'm expanding my series of rock paintings. This one, called "Origins of Earth," is fairly large (12 x 36") and shows quite a bit of detail in shadowing, coloration, and the little holes and stripes within each rock. Origins of Earth is swept with hints of red rocks and green, and a few shells and sea glass are sprinkled in. I'm planning on placing it in St. Augustine's GNG gallery in the next week or so.

When I was a child, I had an awesome rock collection - I'd pick up rocks around the neighborhood and take them home and identify them with my little "rocks and minerals" books, and catalog them. I even wrote to all the governers in the U.S. to ask them for samples of rocks from their state, and you know what? About half of them wrote back to me with something special - coal from Pennsylvania, a few fossils from the midwest, and even a tiny geode.
